Alternator Cable
I blew the inline fuse on the wire going from the stud on the back of my alternator to the stud bolted on the body next to the battery. I can't seem to find this wire at any parts stores. Does anyone have a part number or know where I can get one? Boneyard doesnt have any. Also what is this wire for? I'm assuming ground, but would like to know for sure.
Re: Alternator Cable
Picture would help. I don't recall GM ever grouding the alternator to the body of the car. Ever. Sounds like something added by a P.O. (and completely unnecessary if all the factory grounds are in place)

Re: Alternator Cable
Its definitely factory. I goes to a stud next to the battery along with multiple other cables. I'll try to get a picture tomorrow. It comes from the stud on the back of the alternator.

Re: Alternator Cable
To my knowledge the only fuse that should be by the battery is the fuse for a fuel pump of an efi car.

There are no fuses in the ground portion of your car.
You are either misinterpreting what you are seeing or it’s a PO mod as Damon stated.
Also, there is no stock inline fuse for the alternator, however if you physically trace the wires it leads to one or more fuses depending on VIN but they are for different purposes.

Anyway because you want to replace some wires you should try some aftermarket outlets such as PainlessWiring.com.
