Accessory Bracket Help

ok so i took the motor all apart for the swap over a year ago and now i just droped the new motor in, i can not for the life of me figure out how all the accessory brackets go on, mainly the power steering pump.

Does ANYONE have pictures of a partially torn down motor that i can see the brackets well on? i looked at my friends 84 carb z28 but its WAY different

i have a 1985 Z28 305 Tune Port.. well 87 block 85 heads and accessories so i have v belts and a sepr style belt for the alt

only things i have are power steering pump and alternator no a/c or smog pump, i wanted to get this together and fired up tonite but its getting late, ughhhhh freaking cars i tell ya....

Re: Accessory Bracket Help

I looked up 85 305 power steering bracket on google images and found exactly what you need. I could give you a fish or show you how to fish. IDK why you keep asking these easy to look for the answer questions. Believe it or not, it's faster to look for it yourself than wait for someone to respond.

Re: Accessory Bracket Help

OK blue, just want to get this out of the way. I'm sorry I was sort of a deek on that last post. But what I said is true. Its much quicker to search for little things like this first, then ask Qs if you get stumped. A thread like this will get looked at then passed over by a hundred members before you get an answer sometimes. I did just the search I told you and the first thing that pops up is an exploded image of the accessory system. There were literally hundreds of images for you to pick from that may suit you better than the thread TP provided for you. A little tip here, the search engine for TGO sucks. Use Google, type in "site/thirdgen.org/ (add whatever you want to look for here) you will get much better results. Again, I was just trying to make you a little more self reliant. If you don't have the time to search for an answer to your problem, why would you think someone else will?

I had this same problem! Power steering just looked so complicated and I wasn't around when the previous owner took it off to swap motors, I literally stared at it for weeks and just got discouraged every time I looked at it. It's actually pre I have a 80 block with the pump on the driver side I can take pictures of it if you need?

Re: Accessory Bracket Help

thanks joe i appreciate that alot more then your earlier post, just look it from my point of view, its 28 degrees out, its getting dark, im rushing to beat the sunlight, and its starting to snow, and having no luck on tgo search, then i get an attitude for needing quick help when your already frustrated sorry

and thanks for the tip about google, it works much better

and to MrBranados, pictures would help greatly if you have headers and no A/c, i THINK i got it but im not sure if its right considering the one bracket wont bolt on because of my headers.

Re: Accessory Bracket Help

OK I understand the aggravation factor. Dealing with some brutal cold here too. And a headache for a week now, I may get a lil grumpy lol. Did you delete the a/c? because the high bracket for mine wouldn't go around my headers, I had to cut the part off that went to the second from the front bolt. Then you need to make a spacer to make up the difference between the header flange and the old manifold if yours didn't come with one. My cars in the shop( 10 months now for paint ugh) but I'll be visiting her tomorrow. I can get pix of how I did it, maybe. does this help? Note the top bracket for a/c goes behind the one that bolts on the front of the head. It will cause spacing issues if removed. I hope you have the spacer that often gets lost.

Re: Accessory Bracket Help

Spacer is like a 3/8 thick washer that goes on the studded bolt behind the top of the pump. If you don't plan on using the a/c you can get a bracket from a pickup. I may even have one still in my garage I'd send for a few bux to cover shipping. looks like this. FYI still on that same search I suggested you do in Google images and these are coming from it.

Re: Accessory Bracket Help

and yes i DID lose that spacer,(well i didnt lose it i just couldnt find it at the time, im sure i have it), i noticed something wasnt right when i tried to put a bolt in it... BUT, if you look at my top pic, i used a stud with a nut on it as a spacer, was going to put a second nut on after the pump bracket.... looks okay to you right? i was thinking worst case scenario if its spaced out to far i could just shave the nut down a bit...

im sure i have the spacer its more like a matter of finding it, the car has been apart for almost a year but i do have 98% of the fasteners i removed, which was ALOT.. just have to go look

Re: Accessory Bracket Help

Mine's been apart for three years, maybe more, I've lost track. I wasn't very organized either. Coffee cans and ziplock baggies of bolts nuts and things all over. Making it hell to get her back together, but it's coming along.

"welll while its out lets do this, and this, and this, and well now we did that we hace to buy this that and the third..."

LMAO it's like having a bad crack habit. Only thing is, you have something to show for it when you're done.

Re: Accessory Bracket Help

LMFAO ^ thats f"in great, and yea it has quite the history behind the car, its not pretty but.... paint is the last thing on my list, drive train and suspension come first, pretty paint doest help a motor with several cracks in the block! and neither does a new motor backed uo by a worn out trans, and a rear that wined! lol
