The marks are for timing. You can use a feedback timing light when referenced to the pointer zero to see the advance.

okay thanks, never used an aftermarket one before so the lines going from 0-60 threw me for a loop

it's done so you can actually read and curve the ignition without having the need of a dial back light. DO make sure your degree pointer matches the 0 (piston stop if not rebuilding engine) for accurate results

yea i dont have a fancy timing light, and iv redone the top and, but i didnt touch the crank rods or pistons only the oil pump in the bottom end
