Welding Subframe

I've worked on Firetrucks for about 12 years, and whenever we needed to weld on the chassis, we would always disconnect the ECM for the engine. My subframe on my 92 Camaro is cracked around the steering gear mount. I was going to reinforce it by welding plates on both sides of the subframe. Should I disconnect the ECM? Will it result in a "Reset" of the motor function?/possibly make it run bad? Just wanted to be safe then sorry.
Thanks Also............is there anyway to reset the Tac on the dash?
