Help with identifying a part and its function

Hey guys,

This will be my first and it sucks that it will be one asking for help identifying a part that I have never seen before but oh well.

I have just bought a 1991 Z28 with the 305 TPI and I have discovered a black box that sits just behind the compressor with a feed and return coolant line connected to it. I also found that it has a rigid line going down below it.

The last owner apparently had no idea what that rigid line bolts to so he got a piece of aluminum, covered it in RTV and bolted it to the mounting point on the line to keep the coolant in.

Now I have no idea what this thing bolts to either as the opening is facing towards the radiator and there's nothing around it that it could mount to.

I've attached a picture with the part in question circled.

Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks

A.I.R. Injection Control Valve - directs air flow from the AIR pump to the exhaust ports or catalytic converter or atmosphere.

Awesome, thank you

Know where does the bottom rigid line mount? Can't seem to find a spot anywhere for it

Seems to connect to the AIR pump. See diagram.

Re: Help with identifying a part and its function

Hmmm when I looked it seemed to go well below the compressor but I'll definitely get on this tomorrow and let you guys know what happens.

Thanks for the help!

Re: Help with identifying a part and its function

The AIR pump sits below the compressor, unless it has been removed. The diagram shows the AC compressor removed (missing above).

Oh alright, makes a bit more sense now. I do believe the air pump is missing but i won't know for sure until i look at it tomorrow.

If it is gone is that something i need to re-install?

Re: Help with identifying a part and its function

Probably not unless you have to pass emission or have a check engine light code.

Re: Help with identifying a part and its function

Alright then I'm not going to worry about it. I'll connect the 2 water lines together and pull the box out.

Thanks for your help
