Help me ID this wire

I posted this in the electronics board originally, but the thread didn't yield the results I was hoping for. I thought I'd post it here since the wire is in the engine bay and maybe someone could help me out, possibly by going to look where this wire goes on their car.

So I've found a loose wire that I cannot trace back to where it belongs. It's a black wire located near the back of the distributor and coil (passenger side). It appears as though it got pulled out of a connector or is a ground wire, but I want to verify what it is. It is connected to a green wire that is coming out of a large wire loom at the back of the distributor (see attached picture) via another connector. I've looked around the area and cannot find any connectors that appear to be missing a wire, and I don't see any ground terminals that are missing a wire either.

Can anyone tell me what this wire is and where it should go? Thanks!

Re: Help me ID this wire

Not sure I can help you (although I looked at the pic and I'm stumped). I will say that GM generally didn't attach wires of differing colors/gagues in the middle of a run. I'm guessing somebody replaced a wire run because the original was damaged at some point. Just a guess.

Where's it go?

Re: Help me ID this wire

That's the thing - I have no idea where it goes. It appears to start in the larger diameter wire loom at the base of the distributor as a dark green wire, then it hits a connector and changes to a black wire. From there, I have a distance of wire and it just ends. It looks as though it was cut at some time before I got the car. I can take some more pictures tonight when I get home if it'll help identify where it's coming from. The car has had issues running since I've owned it, and I am now starting to go through systematically and ensure all systems are functioning properly. I'm hoping that someone can find this wire on their car and tell me where it terminates/what it does. I can't pinpoint it in diagrams that I have.

I'll upload a couple of additional photos tonight.

Re: Help me ID this wire

The green wire isn't coming out of the distributor, but rather a large wire loom below the distributor (see pics). It then changes to a black wire at a (what appears to be) factory connector.

You can see in the first pic how long the lead is, reaching all the way to the fully open hood. The second pic is showing the connector, and the third is showing the loom that the green wire is coming out of, as seen from the passenger side of the motor.

I appreciate the help.

Thanks! I'll check that as soon as I can; traveling for work through the end of the week. I'll let you know what I find.

We have a winner! Looks like that's my culprit. Thanks again for the help!
