oil fouling just one side?

Hi I have a 330hp 350cid Vortec head GM crate motor. Well I bought it used from a guy that said it had approx 5000 miles on it and it was in his show truck.
I took him at his word. It was very carboned up and when I took the head off it looked new. This is my first experance with a Vortec motor. I torqued the head according to what the book called for. I change from a carb to a TBI intake from GM performance. I put new gascuts in and commenced to trying to torque it down. To my suprize it sayed inch pounds. I can't beleave it but did what the book called for.
I put new plugs in and it runs great but uses oil. I took it to the dyno today to find out that the #7 plug was fouled and the #1,3 and 5 weren't much better. That was about 1500 miles. I am thinking maybe I didn't get the intake on good eno7ugh and it is sucking in on that side. I was thinking the motor wasn't broken in rite. The even plugs look great.
Can anyone help me out and maybe point me in the rite direction.
Thanks

Re: oil fouwling just one side?

I was thinking the motor wasn't broken in rite.
I'd tend to doubt this... while I've seen some mighty strange things in my day, I can't recall that I've ever seen one side of a motor fail to "break in" but the other "break in" correctly. ("right"... the word "rite" means "ritual") See my signature for a handy mental discipline that shines a light on how to think about explanations you are trying to evaluate.

I'd be more inclined to suspect that the intake casting got caught on the bottom edge of the port holes in the new gasket and tore them, and now the crankcase is connected to the intake ports.

Remove the PCV valve and put your finger over the hole with it idling, and see if there's vacuum there; if so, the intake gasket is definitely leaking there.

Thank you for the advice I'll check it. That's alot easer then a leak down test.

Tried it and ne vacuum at the PCV. Any other ideas I am baffled.
