how to remove and replace original rocker arm stud, 1984 H.O
I'm putting back together my 305 push rods and lifters after replacing them, but on the #5 intake stud is sticking up more than the rest? My question is how can I fix this problem so I can properly adjust my lifters, do I have to buy new studs and if soo which ones and size, do I get tap in ones, screw in ones? Please someone help, my baby needs me

Your probably gonna have to take the head to a machine shop to have the stud replaced. If it was me I'd take both heads and have screw-in studs installed.
You might be ok running it like that. Just because one is sticking up a little higher won't impact the adjustment as long as it's not so high the threads bottom out before the rocker adjusts down properly.

But screw in studs can't be installed by an average joe, or is special tools required for that? Member

Well an average joe can't install a press-in stud, unless you have some kind of press to press a new one in. Any idea why the old one has pulled up? Is there some piston to valve clearance problem? Something out of the ordinary usually has to happen to pull a stud. A really huge cam with the wrong Valvetrain geometry might do it. Does it have an aftermarket cam? If you already have the intake off, I'd just pull the heads and take them both to a machine shop for screw-in's and you'll be able to inspect things further incase you have a bent valve or something.

There is a way a DIY'er can replace that press-in stud with a screw-in one.
Mr. Gasket has screw-in studs that bottom on a shoulder.

Installing these don't require machining the stud boss. Just remove the press-in studs, tap the empty stud boss hole and thread the Mr. Gasket studs in with some thread /sealing/locking compound.
Search the site fror "Mr. Gasket 1076" and you'll find some old threads (no pun intended) about it. It may be acceptable if you're going to stick with the stock cam.

This could work as long as there isn't any other damage. I'm afraid there is other damage though.
