Comp Short Travel Roller Lifters VS...

Anyone have any input on Comp Cams Short travel roller lifters:
http://www.compperformancegroupstore..._Code=15853-16

vs LSx style lifters vs other's short travel lifters and stock roller lifters (for a roller block SBC)? While talking cams using some fairly aggressive shorter duration lobes I had one person tell me that only comp cams short travel lifters will work correctly, another suggested that I really should only run their aggressive lobes with LSx lifters (whatever the current one is, LS2 or LS7). I'm not talking about anything crazy, just lifts close to .600" for durations under 220, in the low to mid .6xx range for durations under 230, should make all of it's power under 6000rpm, definitely below the mid 6xxx range, so it's not like I'm spinning it to the moon either.

What are the advantages/disadvantages? What would you go with?

Re: Comp Short Travel Roller Lifters VS...

Two stories come to mind.
First was a ZZ4 based engine with a Comp variation of the XR276HR. Something along the lines of .550" with 224 @ .050". Not terribly aggresive however the OEM lifters could not keep up past about 6000. There are various accounts of this happening to others as well. A change to Comps 15853 short travel lifter remedied that.
The 2nd story regards a retro roller SBC. The original Comp retro-rollers (853) had seen tens of thousands of miles. Then one started to clatter. It was replaced. All seemed to be ok. Then a cam swap. This time to Comp custom XFI lobed grind that spec'd out around .570" lift and 224 @ .050" duration. Quick ramp considering that the advertised spec is 274. The old retro-rollers started dropping out one at a time. Was this caused by length of service? Crap in the engine? Not sure but a change to the 15853 seemed to have solved the issue. This season will tell the tale.
Having said that, I had spent time shopping for roller lifters (after that last project) and liked what I saw with the Morel's. I don't have the PN handy but IIRC their construction is like that of the Comp short travel (15853) and they're also of a tool steel construction. This prevents the lifter body distortion and the resulting loss of hydraulic pressure that seems to affect the OEM cast body lifters (Gen 1 specific as I can't vouch for Gen 2). What I liked about the Morels was that they were less expensive although I'm not sure if the cheap Morels compare to Comps. I do know that Morels top-line stuff is unsurpassed.

Out of curiousity, where did you find a 220 degree cam with .600" lift cam?
