Fuel pressure drops during hard acceleration
Mild 350 with high volume oil pump (problem?), oil pressure tanks to about 15 pounds (according to the factory gauge, not sure how accurate it is) when under 3/4 or WOT. I typically run one extra quart of oil, and even with that the pressure drops. Should I add a windage tray and see if that helps or do I need a larger oil pan or even just a standard oil pump?
edit: Just realized the title talks about fuel pressure; I meant oil, sorry guys.

Re: Fuel pressure drops during hard acceleration
in most cases Ive seen the problem is related to either use of a high volume oil pump in a 5 quart or smaller capacity oil pan or the oil pump pick-up being mounted to the oil pump so its closer than 3/8" from the oil pan floor thus restricting oil pump supply, in most cases guys simply instal the high volume oil pump in the stock oil pan and never bothered to carefully verify the oil pump pick-up too oil pan floor clearance.

Re: Fuel pressure drops during hard acceleration
The majority of engines including my race engine, do not need high volume pumps. Pressure and volume are 2 different things. Pressure is good up to a point. Too much pressure can put a lot of drag on the pump. Installing the high pressure spring if supplied with a new pump is a good idea. High volume pumps can easily empty an oil pan at constant higher rpms if you can't get the oil back into the pan fast enough.
Good oil control is to get the oil back down into the pan as quickly as possible. Painting the lifter valley, removing screens and valley plugs that are normally installed to limit the oil flow back into the pan are all good for oil control. I'd rather have the oil drain into the lifter valley and onto the crank than trying to direct it to the front or rear before it goes into the pan.
