Fuel smell in cabin

Hi all. I'm hoping somebody can help me with this one as I'm really struggling....

I get a bad smell of fuel in in the cabin of my 1989 firebird formula 350, 5.7 V8. It seems to smell more when the fuel is low (I think!) but it's very hard to tell.

The car had a cat delete exhaust system installed some time ago. Other than the smell there are no other issues and the car pulls like a train. It has 117000 miles on the clock.

Is this common? Can anybody point me in an (hopefully) obvious easy fix fault that I'm simply missing?!

I'm quite handy and can do most basic things on my car. Iv had a look underneath and can't see any leaks from fuel lines etc.

Thanks in advance for your contribution and opinions.
