flexplate ?

just a quick question....
I have a 86 z28 with a mild built 350
it has a chewed up flexplate. I believe
it is a 153 tooth..my question is would it be better for it to have a 168 tooth...are there any benefits to going to a bigger flexplate....

Re: flexplate ?

Idk about that but I'd check your starter and make sure nothing is messed up there (unless you know why your flexplate is botched up)

Re: flexplate ?

the flex is trashed because of a high torqe starter not being shimmed right...i have new 153 tooth and new straight bolt pattern starter.or I have a used 168 and staggered pattern starter...just wondering witch would be better to put in.

168 requires a different starter, and pushes it farther out. May interfere with headers. But, if you have a mini starter, that shouldn't be a problem.

Overall, though, other than a slightly improved lever arm for the starter to turn over the engine, there isn't any advantage to 168 over 153.
