SETTING TIMING ???

setting timing after engine swap . (L03 to L31) dis-connected EST wire , set timing . set at 5 deg BTDC , re-connected EST wire (eng. running) , rev engine , no change in timing with rev's . ECM is stock settings for now . I feel I should see timing change with RPM change . I'm puzzled ? any comments or ideas ? thanks ...

Re: SETTING TIMING ???

I've always shut down the motor, then reconnected and fired it up again. Not sure if it catches the timing wire reconnect in a running state.

Also, just checking here, but you are disconnecting the tan wire with a black stripe at the weatherpack connector that's poking out of the main wiring harness above the heater box, correct? That's the timing wire. Apologies if this was already super-obvious knowlege to you, but some people have been known to disconnect the wrong wire.
