SQUEALING SOUND
Hey Everyone,
Well here's the deal. I got an 83 Trans Am 305 V8. When I got the car it still had all the original belts and parts to it. car only had 118,000 Km on it.
Every so often I would here squealing sound sound and of course my first thought was the belt. So I changed all of them and made sure they were all nice and tight. It ran well without any problems for a while then it always comes back..starts slow and progressively gets worse, I tightened the alternator belt, and it went away. Again all is well for a few days sometimes weeks, but it always comes back with the same MO..starts slowly and progressively gets worse.. Thought it maybe was bad alternator barring, so got new alternator..still happened. Thought maybe its the water pump..so got new water pump..same same same...I open the hood, black rubber shavings everywhere, especially on the alternator..
I have no idea what to do anymore..anyone experience this or have any idea?
Thanks..at wits end with this man.

Re: SQUEALING SOUND
someone may have swapped the original W/P pulley for the wrong one-one style is meant for 76-87 with R4 compressor(presuming your car has A/C) the other style is meant for '69-81 A6 compressor-the A6 style has two different size grooves while R4 type has both main grooves of same size and often a third, smaller front groove for the smog pump belt. Crank pulley must match the W/P pulley style.
