I searched and wasnt able to find anything on this. Im getting a sweet fuel smell coming from near the charcoal canister. Its very strong after shutting her off in my garage. Supposedly theres a vapor canister filter available but from what I have read you cannot replace it and have to replace the whole shebang. any advice?

 

Beginning around 1988-ish (I'm sure someone has the exact year) the EVAP canister lost the external filter pad, making it basically unserviceable. You might be able to force low pressure air back through the purge port and establish air flow back through the carbon bed and dust filter. If you are really ambitious, the bottom of the plastic can could be cut open, then the dust filter cleaned out or replaced, and glue/bond the can back together. Sadly, a junk yard canister that will fit will likely be in just as bad a condition IF you can find one. im gonna try air and see how that goes, then try cutting the bottom if I screw it up then its time for a new canister which should last another 20 years. Thanks.
