ZZ4 cam might be a good choice. crate engine cam, pretty mild.
208/221 duration & 474/510 lift. I have it in my 350 with aluminum Vortecs. I might should have gone with the hot cam or at least 1.6 RRs instead of the 1.5s. that's the way it goes though, youre always gonna wish you'd went bigger or smaller on something.

The zz4 or that Comp 302 is the max I would run in a stockish 305. The LT4 Hotcam, unless you've upped the CR significantly, would run like dogsh!t in it, and would be absolutely horrible without a custom tune.
Even the ZZ4 or Comp 302 would need tuning to get the full benefit from them, especially for idle and part-throttle driveability.

Re: Lb9 with vortec heads and trying to find a better cam
I will say this is my first build so I'm still leaning here what would be needed for the compression to be right for a Lt4 hot cam and I will have a chip burned if need be just wanna keep it mild but want a better top end and 195 hp is weak so

Re: Lb9 with vortec heads and trying to find a better cam
since youre on a budget, I would find some quality cast flat top pistons.they will go nicely with the 30 overbore you mentioned.plain iron rings work well too. have your stock rods checked .and spring for some ARP rod bolts. you can re use your cast crank if it aint broke . I recommend you line hone the block and check for things like core shift ect. as for decking the block just cut it enough to true it up.no need for you to zero deck it. with all this done you will be right around 9:5-1 on your compression rto.87 pump gas friendly. you should be around 230 or so HP. and 300 ft. lbs torque. no, it wont be a fire breathing drag motor.but it WILL put a grin on your face. AND you should see 20 or so MPGs.

Re: Lb9 with vortec heads and trying to find a better cam
If you're going to pull to motor and change the pistons, just go with a 350. It's cheaper. You will lose compression putting Vortec Heads on a 305. It will be in the mid to low 8's.
