what is this hole?

This hole has oil squirt out when the motor turns over. Should it be plugged or is it and oil overflow if too much oil was put in?

Re: what is this hole?

A pic or details please, but no there is no oil overflow hole. Our engines are all sealed up so that oil/oil vapors cant escape into the atmosphere, the EPA/CARB would have had a fit about that one.

The hole on the lower Pass side on the front of the engine, next to the timing chain cover should be plugged with a short bolt. Gotta be the one you're talking about…

EDIT - 2.8 liter engine…forget the above -
