87 iroc z idle issue
im racking my brain on this one. i have a 87 iroc z 305 tpi with a manual trans. i bought the car a few months ago. the car was solid but had a few problems and a check engine light. i drove the the car for a few weeks and noticed the car idles at 1200 rpm. also the engine wants to stall. it does this only the first time you shift from 3500 rpms or so. i usually make sure i rev the car before driving to get it through the hick up so the car doesnt die while shifting. after that the car runs great it just has a high idle. back the the check engine light i replaced the MAF relay and rewired the that pig tail. it turned out the check engine light but it comes on then goes out after some driving. another thing is that kinda sucks is that my obd connector does not power up the scanner. no power in the upper right hand terminal. if any one has an idea please post

Re: 87 iroc z idle issue
I've never known any OBD1 cars DLC to be able to power up a scan tool. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
If the Check Engine light comes on after a MAF replacement, what it the new code? What was the original code(s) that led you to replace it? Is the new MAF an aftermarket or OEM?
You should be able to read on your scan tool the IAC counts and compare them to what they should be in the Shop Manual, All Data or Mitchell On Demand. Also check for vacuum leaks around the throttle body as well as other vacuum hoses, they deteriorate over time from OZONE.
I would like to know.
Patrick
As a side note; where can I find the production numbers for RPO # LG4 V8 of my 1987 OROZ-Z28. Meaning how many Carbureted 5.0 Vin H engines were produced in 1987?
