A/C compressor question
Ok, beyond my renewed starting issues. The A/C compressor. Last year I said ah, its been since 1994 that i had A/C in this car. So I thought just charge it up and see. To my BIG surprise it WORKED. Compressor engaged and I had A/C? I could NOT believe it, but it was short lived, the system had leaks.
So today when I had it running, I charged it again after replacing all the o-rings. Well she charged up but the compressor will not engage. Its trying from what I can hear, but no go.
I am thinking the obvious but should I just replace the compressor? THanks.

Re: A/C compressor question
Typically, if the system is low on refrigerant the compressor will not engage. This is to protect the compressor.
Unless you locate and repair all the leaks you're just wasting your time to continue to try and recharge it. The leaks won't fix themselves. Also, don't introduce any kind of stop leak into your system.

Well still not sure why the a/c compressor wont engage even with the system pressurized. Any help or thoughts on this? thanks.

Re: A/C compressor question
I did some digging on this site on this issue. I just picked up a new pressure switch from Autozone. I tried the paper clip trick on wiring and the air compressor engages. Hoping this switch is the issue.

Re: A/C compressor question
well, it was the switch. But I must have a heck fo a leak. I first started the car, then turn on the A/C. I had charged it 2 days ago. So used the paper clip and got the compressor running, the guage dropped to 0. So I charged it with what I had left in the can, almost got it to the green area, and it started to work. I pulled the paper clip and connected it to back to the new pressure switch. PERFECT. but not for long, pressure drops and the compressor stopped. Oh well, time for new parts.
