About to swap the new pump in

Alright so im about to swap my new pump in... I finally just got the tank dropped after fighting it the last hr.

So can yall give me some good advice so I install it correctly, and will putting 12volts and a ground to my new pump make it run so I know its not defective?

WTF apparently you have to replace the plastic hose that comes from the top of the old pump except with a piece of rubber hose and a hose clamp then you epoxy glue the top of the thing that the new pump sits in... Does this all sound correct so I know what to go buy real quick?

Use the rubber hose...but get real hose clamps in SS.

I checked my pump externally in diesel...still took about 5 or 6 minutes of running it to get it to prime, then all was good after that.

Just look at your sending unit connections and hook up correctly, as I *think* the pump may run backwards...I had assumed it was like a starter motor, but not so..as I saw bubbles forming in my little test bottle (cut off 2 liter coke bottle) when I put power to it.

Swapped the leads then a few minutes later, she started pumping fuel.

Ok so I pulled the pump out and put the new one on... quick question though. Is this new rubber o-ring for where the tank seals to the pump, and my pump wasn't sitting inside a plastic covered thing like iv seen in videos my old one just had some black foam around the middle so I put my new one on like that and im guessing that's ok?

The foam thing is an insulator, supposed to hold fuel when your tank is low, and keeps the pump "cool"...that's the idea anyways.

But, the unit I pulled from a Ford5.0, had no "foam"...so not sure how critical it is.

No idea about a "plastic coveed thing"...

But the big fat oring should b used to replac he old one betwen sending unit and tank.

Alright well I got the pump in, and put the tank back up BUT... It's still not priming up or anything.

So I checked my power where the 3 wires (1 black, 1 purple, and 1 grey wire) go to the connector from wherever and none of them are getting 12volts as soon as I put the key on.
Now obviously the middle wire (Black) Is ground but which one of the other 2 supply the power? Im just gonna make my own wire harness going to the plug straight from a power source with just a in-line fuse and wire it to a switch so I can make sure the new pump is good so I can re install everything on my rear end.

While the tank is out, cuttin a proper access door is much easier. GM didn't do it out of lazyness.

but test the wires inside the car, uder the carpet in the back seat, see if power just ins't gettin through the bluk head.

Well I just got done wiring up a new harness lol. The issue was that the grey wire that goes to the pumps harness Wasn't getting any power.

Im gonna go over how I wired it up etc tomorrow just to make sure it's all correct and wont hurt anything, lol im **** about stuff.

Yep, it's what I did...I also cut and double flared the lines off the sending unit, getting too old to drop that tank in the future
