1989 formula 350 bogging

having a problem when the car idles too long. when the car is hot, the RPMs start to jump, get slight back firing and no power. when car is put into reverse, the idle doesn't jump at all. it is calm and cool

can anyone assist?

you think that might be the problem when the car is idling over 1/2 hr straight? this is the only time when I seem to have the problem?
