Car stayed running with key out of ignition
Hey guys, so today I took my car on a 50 minute drive which is the longest I've ever driven it. I noticed my car was getting hot and the temp gauge was reading around 235-240 but wasn't getting any hotter, once I got home and took the key out the car was still running completely fine with its normal idle, I had to turn it off by pulling the fuel pump fuse, I'm guessing it has something to do with the key cylinder but I have a feeling the high temp has something to do with it. That was the longest drive I've ever taken it on, I wasn't getting on it at all either. I turned it off and started it up ten minutes later and everything was fine again. Can anyone think of any other possible causes to consider?
Re: Car stayed running with key out of ignition
The lock cylinder turns a gear which engages a rack. The rack actuates a linkage rod which is connected to the ignition switch at the base of the steering column, on top of the outer jacket. If the linkage rod is not properly connected, what you described might happen.

That's what I've been reading but I have a big feeling it has something to do with the car getting hot
