305 sbc theories
305 sbc theories
Has anyone ever had theories? any one ever discover the G96 under the hood of there 89 and up firebird or camaro? TBI injected? i have a camaro that did have the 305, roller, TBI, and it did alot of 6000 rpms intill i was just cruising one day and blew a head gasket... I dont want to be dogged on i just want to see if any one has thought they had a 350 hiding under the hood when actually it was a 305. Mind you this engine made my 96 Tbird seem weak and those 4.6 liters arent nothing to shake a stick at... i fell in love with this camaro recently swapped the G20 chevy 350 in it and it dont feel the same. dont get me wrong this engine squeaks the tires when i put it into drive. let me know if the thought of more duration in a camshaft would do a 305 more justice.

Re: 305 sbc theories
i know there not top of the breed... but i miss my 305. no joke. it felt like a 350 with the swirl ports on top.. Plan on a 6.0 30 over with LS3 heads and a t56. that's because its worth doing.. just asking if someone ever mistakenly thought there 305 was a power house 350... i was cause when i took this roller engine apart, it had a fuel pump boss. that's also weird

Re: 305 sbc theories
Last month I had an 'expert' at Auto Zone say my white 91 RS was one of the ones that has a 350 in it.
Told him no it was a 305.
He argued it was a 350. He could tell by the sound.
Told him it was a LO3 305 per the GM RPO code.
He said that might have been true when it was new but the RS has a 350 now.
Told him I'm the original owner (May of 1990) and 385, xxx miles later the RS still has the original LO3 305.
He said well you might be right.
Maybe you have a 305 that was taken care of and is well tuned. With a good exhaust they can seem fairly strong at low rpm.
Or may you got the Auto Zone special

Gotta love when they hear it idle and ask if its a 305 or 350...
Sorry off topic but I just had a laugh at that one.
