Was out on a long trip yesterday and all of the sudden I went to hit the gas and got a dead spot in the throttle and a lean smell shortly after. If I kicked the throttle down hard it would pick up speed, but would randomly choke at normal acceleration. This problem would go away and then come back an hour later. A restart seemed to take it away for a bit, no codes. It seemed to have gotten worse later on in the night where you could feel the whole car bucking when you hit the gas. This is an 86 tpi

 

When is the last time you did a tune up?

 

This just happened in my 89 !!!! Did it "once" before months ago and no code was set this time it is doing it constantly,,, I barely got it home... Pulled in garage shut if off and pulled codes,, got a 33 !!!!

 

It used to do it to me in my car, then I did a full tune up. Runs great now.

 

Did you get a code 33 ?? This car is well maintained and the tune up parts are all good.. Did you get "ANY codes at all before you did a tune up ??

 

Check your fuel filter / Fuel PSI sounds to me like it is clogged or your fuel pump is getting weak / Low volume

 

Replaced my fuel filter today !! When I took the old one off I shook it and it sounded like a can with some rocks in it,, the inside of it was banging around.. Never saw this on a fuel filter before but glad I installed a new one. The old one was a fram !!!!

Went for a ride and a few minutes later,, same thing !!! started cutting out and hesitating then smoothing out again,,, came to a stop and engine idled fine,, happens when stepping on the gas......Checked codes and got 33 again !!!!!
