Timing causing starter to kick back
Hey Guys,
My mini starter is bucking on me when I try to start it due to too much advance. Right now my total timing is at 36 degrees and the initial is around16 degrees. The vacuum advance gives me about 15 degrees of more timing. If I back the timing off it will start, however the car will run hot and overheat due to not having enough timing. The starter will kick on me regardless if the vacuum advance is hooked up or not. Im not sure what I should do, as either way isn't going to work.
The car will start when the timing is at about 4 degrees TDC but that leaves my total at 24 degrees and well below the 34-38 degree range.
Anybody have any ideas on what I can to fix this?
Thanks Guys
Here's my setup
freshly rebuilt SBC 350
906 Vortec heads
Edelbrock intake manifold
Comp Cams 286 duration cam
Holley 750 carb
Flat top pistons
HEI distributor

Re: Timing causing starter to kick back
More/better starter
Timing isn't "the problem"; inadequate starter is exposed by getting the timing right.
Get rid of the stock direct-drive Delco POS. A reduction gear unit is the way to go.
