87 Camaro 2.8: Possible Tach/Auto Transmission Problem
We are going drag racing and while testing the shifting tonight by flooring it in first gear, I got the car up to 7000 rpm from first and it didnt shift. From what else I am reading and common sense, it obviously shouldnt be there. The revs were still increasing though, not topping out. This is what makes me thing it might be more tach related. However if the trannie or whatever controls the shifts is screwed, it could be that too. Note this is an Automatic. Anyone else have a similar problem, we have 2 weeks to diagnose and fix it. To try and see if it is the tach we may hook up an aftermarket one to see the real rpm.

Re: 87 Camaro 2.8: Possible Tach/Auto Transmission Problem
Update: Decided to go for it and just gave the car. Hit the end of the tachometer range, and then shifted a second after. Dont know what Rpm it is really shifting at, but I think I can come to the conclusion that the cars Tachometer is off. Car was loud at that RPM, but has a Magnaflow on it so its understandable. I would like to install a new tachometer, if any one could re direct me to a thread that has lots of pictures of different setups so I can decide what I like, and will have to install a new tach over the winter, although its an automatic, so it doesnt really matter.
