A cold air intake thread and maf sensor
So I was looking at starting a cold air intake on my car since now it runs like a brand new tranny. I can start small mods. I was looking at a few cold air intake sets. One thing has set me off though. I was going to get duct hose at the same diamater as the intake is. But I forgot the maf sensor.
DO I just route the intake starting at the maf sensor? Or is there a custom cut I have to do?

Re: A cold air intake thread and maf sensor
Are you starting with the truly awful 86 "boxes and elbows" intake system that came originally on an 86 TPI Trans Am? If so, you already know every piece of it has to go. WAY too many bends and transitions to ever flow well.
On the cheap, I've upgraded those factory air intakes by installing a Throttle Body-to-MAF duct from a later Trans Am TPI engine (88-up, if memory serves) where the piece is a single molded rubber elbow with pretty smooth transitions. That will get the job done between those two points, and it's already got the tricky oval shape needed to slip over the throttle body intake flange. In other words, it fits. Then add some piping/ducting on the front of the MAF over to a K&N conical filter residing roughly where the stock air filter box was. It's a short run, simple to do for a home-gamer. Seen it done with all kinds of materials from cheap to expensive.
Fairly inexpensive, it fits, it won't fight you much and it flows TONS better than the stock 86 ducting setup.

I definitely want to remove the bulky intake system it has now and the huge air box. Will try that idea though seems a lot cheaper than the typical job lol
