what ro do

Ok got a 74 350 in my 87 firebird it has 882 heads I am getting a 305tbi on trade would those heads with a good port and polish job done to them b good on my 350 it has 8.5.1 compression right now im just looking for a cruise around car until I can afford a better engine

The 882 heads flows better than the 305 TBI heads, but the 305 heads will have much smaller chambers and bump up the compression.

Truthfully, I would try to sell the whole 305 TBI engine or take it to the scrap yard, take the money you get from that and put towards a set of used vortec heads and intake.

The vortecs can be had for $100-300 used and will gain you better flow, plus more compression which will add up to about a 40-50 HP gain over either set of heads you have now

Thanks knight rider im actually gonna go get a set of vortecs when my local pick and pull has there half off sale any specific ones to look for

1996-2000 chevy/gmc full size truck/van/suv with the L31 5700 5.7L (350) engine. Last 3 digits of the head casting # will be 062 or 906. That's the ones you want

Thanks I bought a set of 906 last weekend look good doing some cleaning up on them then gotta find a intake
