91 Camaro RS help
91 Camaro RS help
I'm just getting into the old muscle car scene so I invested in a 91 Camaro RS. I only paid 650.00 for it so I figured it was a steal and it's my project car. However, I'm not sure what's missing here or where to go from this point, so any ideas or knowledge from you guys would be great!! It's a V6 3.1L so besides an engine swap what should be next?

Re: 91 Camaro RS help
Congrats on purchase! It All depends what you want to do with the car. Almost any third gen that rolls is a steal for $650. So you can't go wrong whatever route you go. Get a chilton or shop manual and Id start working out any bugs you have. Drivability, lighting, electrical, suspension, interior. Start somewhere and work your way out. I'm not as familiar with the 6cyl cars but the engine swaps are pretty straight forward. Even a tpi or lsx swap isn't that bad. Decide what you want out of the car and build it that way. Daily driver, drag, auto cross, street/ strip? There's so much you can do with these cars and a very large aftermarket realm. First thing I would do is get it on a lift or at least jack stands and see what goin on under there. Check ball joints, tie rods, shocks, bushings, mounts, brakes etc. More than likely all will need replaced. I'm on my iphone so I can't see what state you're in but where did the car originate? Do you have any history on it? Last thing you want is to find rust holes in the floor pans or bent subframe. Or worse... Once you have been through a few of these cars there is always a worse from previous owners. Once again congrats.

Re: 91 Camaro RS help
Missing the air intake duct/pipe and air filter box and filter.
Take a look http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_...0017_large.jpg
Or this style that was used on the V8 TPI engines http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f9...S/P1010494.jpg
If you are planning an engine swap, I would work on getting the chassis, suspension, and brakes ready for the V8.
Sub frame connectors
Tubular lower control arms
Lower control arm relocation brackets
Aftermarket tubular torque arm
Poly suspension bushings
Check and replace suspension parts like ball joints, tie rod ends, etc as needed
Good shocks/struts
Posi unit or locker for rear end.
You could go ahead and do a good cat back exhaust system, just leave Y pipe stock for now as you will need a diff one for the V8
