Intermittent code 54.. some symptoms

1989 2.8, T5.

Car will run great when warmed up. Its about 50/50 sometimes a code 54 will show up and sometimes not. Car doesn't seem to run differently if its there or not.

First symptom is that I don't hear the fuel pump priming when I turn the key. Second symptom, the car takes a long time to start for the first time each day. 6-10 seconds of cranking. And sometimes the car will jerk or stumble in second and third gear. Once its warm though everything runs great. I've replaced the fuel filter and the fuel pump relay. Oh also sometimes I will hear the pump priming when I shut they car off! But never when I first turn the car on.

Thank you!

Code 54 will show if your fuel pump has low voltage and
Code 54 will also show if your voltage is high on your M/C (mixture control) Solenoid, they both apply for your 2.8.

Awesome thank you! I'm not 100% sure as to how I would go about checking the two of those things?

I just did some researching. Is tHe MC solenoid only on carb vehicles? Mine is the MPFI v6.

Sorry I probably should have mentioned that!
