MAF or SD

I've researched for a while and still can't seem to grasp the concept of the difference is MAF and SD. I'm just more concerned of what will and will not work(if any). I know the MAF will be able to handle cam, heads, and upgrades better than the SD without needing a tune.

I will be putting an L98 TPI from an 87 iroc which would be MAF into my 92 RS TBI car. What issues or problems will I have if I don't go SD and just use my MAF harness?

Thanks

Wiring differences. I put an 89 system in my 91. Otherwise its not bad.

I have a MAF harness, ECM and prom from an 88 Camaro. What wiring are you referring to?

Thanks

A MAF system has a MAF, while the Speed Density system uses a MAP sensor, so that wiring is different.

Your 92 will have VATS. Unless you get a 91?-92 SD harness, where the ECM has the controls for VATS, you will need to eliminate or bypass that... The VATS relay interrupts the fuel pump, and expects the correct resistance form the ignition key pellet, and a specific frequency signal from the ECM. Without a SD ECM to provide that signal, you will have no fuel. That's how we get to either use a 7730 SD ECM or eliminate VATS.

I have a 7730 ecm but no MAP harness and had originally planned on using an SD harness. I guess my only concern is if all the gauges will work. I have a T56 tranny mated to the L98.

The body harness is different. They plug in but a lot of pins need to be moved in the c100 and c207 harness.
Vats is not used on the 87 system. The vats module provides the signal to the fuel system. No need to bypass anything. Just do your reading and research. Took me about an hour to swap around pins in the harnesses.
