ignition coil for 90 camaro 3.1L

What are these two strips of metal for that are in the bolt bag that comes with the ignition coil?

The only thing I could think of was the bolt pattern on the bracket does not match the ignition coil, but I haven’t checked the dimensions yet.

Those strips of metal are to possibly mount the new coil. Take a look at how the stock one is mounted.

The best way to go is to grind the rivet heads off the OEM coil mounts to free up the mounting pieces. Then use the small screws & nuts to attach them to the new coil. This way it is all very close to OEM.

Thanks RBob,

I had already ripped out the old coil. I bolted the new coil up with the metal strips. Don't know if the offset in the strips were to be orientated a certain way, but I put the offset on top after examining the old coil.
