How to get a FILTERMAG for free

Get a hard drive from your old computer before you trash it.

Go to Wal Mart and buy this thing. It goes so much smoother when you have the right size torx driver.

Take off cover plate.

Unscrew this.

Unscrew these lug nuts from the data disc.

Screws removed.

Remove the first magnet.

Take off the hub cover.

Remove needle and data disc.

Now you can pry out the second banana clip shaped magnet.

Keep the backing plates on these magnets. The magnets are crumbly if you try to remove them. They also seem to put out more gauss with the bracket in place. Slap them on your oil filter. Tape them in place if you wish.

Go deface, drill, or shred this metal data disc so identity thieves don't send Mayhem to kidnap your grandma.
