Been a while but some questions on car start/not start
Hello fellow 3rd gen folks. Winter was too long but I dusted off the bird and got her up and running for the summer again!
So this has been a problem with my car. She starts up ok, but if I run her then shut it down, I have to wait a bit for it to start again. It sometimes makes a very slight tick noise or a whine noise, not very loud at all. My thinking is the starter may have a bad spot in it. Or its something electrical that is getting hot and needs to cool off.
Any thoughts??? Thanks!

Starter solinod is bad or its getting too hot. Do you have headers? Bec I have headers and they run .5in away from my starter and it cooks that solinoid and it struggle to start after I warm it up then shut it off. Just an idea.

I don't have headers but the car say for many years. I was thinking it might be the starter itself. But that makes sense. Do you think a high performance starter might resolve this? thanks Piston454

It's probably heat soak like others have mentioned. A heat shield or wrap might help.
You might want to try an trick my Dad showed me back before I could reach the pedals. You don't even have to disassemble the starter either. Here's a photo of a typical GM solenoid:

1. Disconnect the battery AT THE BATTERY.
2. Remove the battery cable from the solenoid.
3. Break loose the nut the red arrow is pointing to.
4. While holding the stud, loosen the nut (but don't remove it) until you can push the stud in and turn it 180 degress.
5. Pull the stud back out; it shouldn't turn while it's pulled out; inside the plastic solenoid "hood" there's internal stops that prevent it from turning.
6. Re-tighten the nut but don't over tighten it.
7. Re-connect the battery cable and battery and give it a try.
The stud is a contact that resembles a button head bolt. By turning it 180 degrees you're exposing a clean, unworn surface to the mating contact which should improve the connection between the battery and the starter motor.

I am thinking is the VATS setup that is causing the start issues. Working to resolve that now.
