Fuel level

So I've been stretching the money I have in my bank until I get paid at my new job, and I so I had a question about the fuel level and fuel pump in my car.

The baffels in tank are broken, so whenever you brake or accelerate, the fuel gauge will move depending on what you're doing (braking = fuel gauge dip). Usually at about half a tank it varies a little less.

Now I always fill up at half just to satisfy my fuel pump and my sanity.

Today however, it was a little below and seemed to vary a lot. At some points it looked like I was almost at empty. Slapped some gas into it, only took 8 gallons to full. Still had half a tank!

Will driving the car under half on the gauge (or when the full level is reading low) hurt the car or pump in anyway?

I don't plan on doing that often, some days you just need to stretch the dollar. Especially when your greedy car still has 8 gallons

Re: Fuel level

Good luck at your new job! And saving money while owning a 3rd gen. Seems like an oxymoron to me.

Will driving the car under half on the gauge (or when the full level is reading low) hurt the car or pump in anyway?

You got to give the pump in your tank a little more credit. If GM put a pump in the tank that only worked with a half tank or fuller, how many people would've bought one of these? These pumps are pretty robust and they take a lot of beating from pumping and heat.

I think you'll be fine.

Re: Fuel level

Oh great! Whew. I was worried. Never owned or driven a car where the fuel gauge gets so erratic below half.

I have faith in my fuel pump! Lol but babying it doesn't hurt, give it less of a reason to force me to cut my exhaust and drop the tank
