2.8 won't stay running.
2.8 won't stay running.
Just bought an 87 camaro, 2.8 multi port injection. Been sitting since 1995, New fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator. Wants to start but acts like it immediately runs out of gas. Fuel pressure is about 42 psi and stays steady during engine cranking. Misplaced my code reader so I'm not sure of any engine codes at the moment. Any one have any ideas?

Re: 2.8 won't stay running.
Thanks, I was afraid of clogged injectors but that was my next Thought. Any tip for getting those cleaned up other than buying new? I was thinking maybe soaking the tips in acetone in a shallow pan, avoiding submerging the entire injectors.
Re: 2.8 won't stay running.
Hey Mr. J , In actual practice I have not seen an easy do it yourself method of cleaning injectors that have been left to sit with fuel in them till gummed up . As your aware (from replacing the regulator) there is some taking apart of upper manifolds such that it's not a quick 10 minute job to take out and reinstall the injectors . Now , once you do take them out you'll need new O rings on them so they will not leak when reinstalled . Were this mine to do , and I'd only want to do the remove and replace ONCE , I'd pick up a set of remanufactured injectors from the site sponsor here known as "SouthBay Fuel Injectors" . This company has sold literally hundreds of injectors here and everyone gives high marks for their product/service . I'm fairly sure that a set of 6 will run somewhere just over $100 , money well spent as even unclogged our factory injectors (Multec) are not as good as the Bosch replacements from SouthBay . I have no connection to this company other than being one of many happy customers of theirs . Now , if your really squeezed for funds , and are looking for the low buck attempt , you do know that each injector has a tiny filter built into the top of it (the end that sticks into the fuel rail) , yes ? Well if you were to get some O rings , take it apart and take those little filters out and clean them , it just may run at least enough to let you know your going in the right direction . A paperclip bent into a hook is all you need to fish the filter out of the recess it sits in and with luck maybe its those little mesh screens plugged up and not the injector pintle itself ......
Re: 2.8 won't stay running.
I pulled the injectors out, the pintles were stuck closed but with some carb/choke cleaner I got then freed up, stuck everything back together and it started right up, smooth idle but I think the idle air control is out of adjustment. New o rings cost me about $20 and a few hrs work, I can live with that. Thanks for your guys' input
