Hey everyone, I really have not been around latley life has been keep on kicking me down financailly... and cant get the rest of the money together to get my car back on the road..
the car is an 87 iroc , h/c/I/ and a ton of other stuff. ( 350/700r4/ borg warner rear.
I have not started this car in years for a couple of reasons, its parked at my dads apt 30miles away, blown trans ( is why i parked it )
It is waiting on a t56 swap , which I have mostly everything for , but gauges, some bolts, sound deadining and some fluids. unless I forgot other stuff.
I however dont want to screw my car up any more and AM TRYING to get a complete list of what I Should do before start up.
I assume I will have to drain gas ( whats the best way to do this? just unbolt it from the fuel filter?
charge or replace battery.
drain oil, coolant, rear end fluid then, pull the sprark plugs and spay a nice three count of wd40 in ?
Might want to pop the injectors out and soak em in lacquer thinner for acoupla days.
Yup, to drain the gas you can take the filter loose and let the pump drain the tank, assuming it still works and isn't gummed up... then once all the gas is out, pour the rest of the gallon of thinner that you used only a few ounces of above, into the tank, and pump just until that starts coming out and then stop so that it sits in there and soaks for a day or 2. Put a new filter on it and pump some more until the thinner comes out the line at the engine and then let that sit and soak for a day or 2 more. Then right before you put the ffrshly cleaned injectors in, pump some more through the line to flush out whatever it has loosened. Then just add a coupla gallons of gas at startup time, the remaining thinner won't matter in the gasoline.
If you haven't tried to start it yet I would first drain the oil and put in new oil and filter. Then before you are ready to crank it spin it over for a bit to get the oil up to some of the valve train and it will put a good coating on the bearings before firing off. Reason is sometimes when a motor sits for several years all the oil will drain back down to the oil pan and the lifters, bearings and all important moving parts are pretty much dry or not near as much oil as it is used to on a consistent basis. I know your pain. I just got mine running again after sitting for around 5 years because of a bad tranny. Just rebuilt the tranny then had to replace the fuel pump along with a new filter then after about 1 day ride new injectors from southbay, new distributor cap and button, new plugs and wires and presto its runs again. Might want to check your fuel pressure to.

Thank you, I've said pff to hoa, but they got cameras in there and have caught me one to many times ,they said next time they catch me working on my car I'll loose the spot. And I do gotta say I like having a indoor spot away from the weather and the elements.
So I'll tow it to a friends house with a garage spot (one car garage ) so it will be tight, a pita to do work but it's in doors.
