Help identify this part please

First off I have a 1989 Camaro IROC Z (5.7L automatic). The rubber boot over this sensor located on the cam cover has rotted and I need to replace it; however, I am unsure exactly what it is a boot for. Please help.

Re: Help identify this part please

Looks like, at one time, it was the PCV valve grommet. You can get one at AZ hanging on a card in the PCV valve area, by the oil and air filters.

Re: Help identify this part please

the cam is in the middle of the block- that cover is over the valves, thus they are commonly called "valve covers".. that thing is a grommet- just take it in and match it up to the ones in the "Help!" aisle of your favorite auto parts store..
