Re-torqing copper head gasket with no run time?

I want to know if I could re use my expensive multi layer copper head gasket. The gaskets have seen 0 run time because this engine has never been started yet. could I just re install them and forget about it? or should I be giving summit a call?

You can try it and see; not much to lose if it doesn't work out.

Just make sure to renew the sealer on the head bolt threads.

Keep a close eye on it: don't want it to vanish into thin air somehow. You know how sneeeeeeky those things are about getting lost.

Seriously, what do you think is going to happen, anyway? Ya put it back together, the gaskets either work, or they don't. If they do, no problem. If they don't, oh well, pop the heads off, replace em, no problem.

Not going to tear anything else up regardless.

Try it and see. Not much to lose if it doesn't work out.

Re: Re-torqing copper head gasket with no run time?

I reuse my Felpro MLS head gaskets even after running the engine. I think I've had my heads off at least 3 times now. I clean them with some brake clean, spray them with a copper coat spray and put them back onto the engine. As long as there's no damage, MLS gaskets are designed to be reused.

I can't say about MLS copper gaskets though. Mine are steel but even with no run time, there should be no issues.
