Muffler temp?

Hey guys, I have a very stupid question I'm asking because I just don't know. Stock 87 GTA 5.7 stock exhaust, my muffler runs about 300-350 degrees is that normal?? Anyone have any ideas. Thanks in advance for any input anyone can give

Not a stupid question........you're in the ballpark. Depending on how hard the car is driven and how long it's driven hard will determine how hot the muffler gets. A cat converter will get really hot; upwards of 600* or more. Also depends on lean/rich conditions.

If you really want to know, get an IR gun and check it after long/short/hard drives.

I really wouldn't be too concerned unless you got some serious engine tune problems and the like.
