3 4th gen Questions

I noticed the currect 95 Z28 post and was thinking. Okay these are really LAME question to ask about the 4th gen, but here goes.

What kinda MPG do you get with the 6 speed driven mildly

Can you fit a baby set in one

Do the 4th gens feel a ton bigger and heavier when cornering?

Okay stop laughing, I am a new dad and refuse to buy a 4 door honda! I guess I could get my hands on a GN motor and put in my 3rd gen, that would be cool

Z28Dan, I've got a 94 Z28 M6 and if you don't drive like a madman you can get 20-22 in the city, 26-27 highway. You can install a carseat but you might need some sort of clip thing the help with the shoulder belt. The cars manual tells you how to do it. Also, some of the later 4th gens have the safety achor in the cargo area that lets you use a tether(sp?) on the carseat.

I'm in the same boat as you but I did finally breakdown and buy a SUV but kept the Z... best of both worlds!

I've also owned a number of 3rd gens including one currently (83 TA w/WS6 suspension). I may catch a lot of FLAK for this but... I think the 4th gen cars are vastly superior the the 3rd gens. Don't get me wrong I really like the 3rds but the 4ths are better. I don't notice the 4th being any "heavier" in the corners than any 3rd I've driven. One of my 3rd gens was a very low mileage 87 IROC w/5.7 & leather, t-tops. Great car but I like my 94 even better.

Thanks for the info, I thought for a second that people were laughing too hard to reply to my message. Queston, Does your 4th gen have the close ratio tranny? Do you know the years that they used it? Logic tells me I need to get something that gets good MPG because I travel 40min each way to work, but I am driving a crapped out Celica and hate getting burned by anything with more then 4cyl. I drive my Camaro weekend summers, it's time for something newer for an eveyday car. Don't get me wrong the IROC is never leaving, it's just semi retired.

Man I'm glad you're not going to follow the crowd who automatically sells all sports cars, and then buys a minivan, or 4-door car, just because you have a kid. The day I have a kid or even 2, I am keeping my TA for the "family car" and hopefully, by then, I will have a C5 Vette for my dailey driver

1) My Automatic 4thgen gets 17mpg on an average. I do both highway & city driving, but the majority is highway. I got 20mpg before modding the car.
2) Baby seats fit just fine.
3) 4thgens feel slightly "bigger" when cornering. My 89 IROC did handle better than my 97 TA.

The only year that had a different ratio in the 6-speed was 93
If the car came with 2.73 gears, 1st gear ratio was 3.36
If it had 3.23's the 1st gear ratio was 2.97
Overdrive for both was .62

94-97 ratios were
1st 2.66
2nd 1.76
3rd 1.30
4th 1.00
5th .74
6th .50

I have 94 and it gets a consistant 21 mpg. It has ran a 13.82 on street tires. Oh, it is a 6 spd with 3.42 gears. The handling is great. I am keeping mine when my baby is born. I'm not selling out.

Lol...I hope you have reeeeeeeally short legs. Hmmn, to get the baby seat in the front seat (rearfacing) the seat needs to be all the way back. makes a tight fit for the wife in the back seat, unless ofcourse you move your seat all the way up and have the steering wheel in your gut.

Put the seat in the back and you wife now gets to keep her knees on the dash...

Hey, we made do with the IROC with one kid...two kids and it was out of the question...
