Torque on Vortec screw in studs?

I'm going to install collarless screw in studs, Mr Gasket 1076, in my Vortec heads.

How much torque should I use? I'm afarid of breaking off a tip of the cast if I over torque,. Have seen photos from others that have done that.

And I guess I should use some permanent thread lock as well?

Without the flat hex head to bottom out against the rocker stud boss there is nothing to torque. Just screw them in until they stop. And yeah, I'd use something to make sure they don't back out.

Re: Torque on Vortec screw in studs?

I've done this on LT1 heads, torquing to about 15 ft/lb with LocTite 242 (service removable) applied. That was only 15 years and about 60K miles ago so I'm not sure how well it's going to work out, but I think it has a chance.

I also used the 1076 studs due to the lack of a collar providing the ability to maintain good rocker geometry. I tried LT4 studs (12371058) and 1075 studs, but neither allowed a proper fit.
