Thicker wheel stud question

I just finished the 4thgen front brake conversion and while I was test driving the car I felt a wobble. Pulled over to check and noticed 3 out of the 5 studs had broken off. The hub had the Dorman 610-323 which are 12mm studs. I was wondering if anyone has ran 14mm studs without cracking the hub. If so do you guys have a part number?

Thanks,

Ben

Re: Thicker wheel stud question

I have used the search feature and nothing comes out about the front wheel hubs. I've read about the rears but I'm not sure if it's the same thing.

Re: Thicker wheel stud question

12 mm is stock size and work fine. Why the studs broke seems to be the issue. What hub was used? Is it fitting inside the stock wheel allthe way?

Were lugnuts all the way on tight and seated? Thicker studs arent going to solve the issue. The 12 mm stuff shouldnt break

Yeah, you have problems somewhere. Find what wrong and then the lugs will be fine

Re: Thicker wheel stud question

Tighten the wheel with open-ended lug nuts to see if your studs are too long for the closed-end lug nuts...?
Check the thread count above the nuts.

Re: Thicker wheel stud question

Is it possibly you forgot to tighten them?
did you buy the hubs assembled or did you do them yourself?
who put the studs in?

Re: Thicker wheel stud question

I have 7/16" studs on my front wheels. Roughly the same as 12mm. Don't need anything larger on the front unless you're driving a truck. On the rear, I run 5/8" studs.

I agree with the above posts. Use an open ended nut so that you know there are enough threads in the nut and they're not bottoming out on the stud before the wheel is tight enough.

It's hard to tell but those rims also look like they require a shank nut and not a tapered cone nut. If they are a cone style nut, I don't think the studs are long enough. The threads of the stud should be long enough to go past the surface of the rim by the diameter of the stud.

12mm stud should extend at least 12mm out of the rim for proper thread contact and holding strength.

Re: Thicker wheel stud question

I pulled the brake discs, took out all the studs and pressed the new ones on, carefully checked the hub that it sat flush with the rotor and put the wheels back on. I've driven it prob 45 miles on the street so far and I've checked the stud nuts(bought open ended ones from autozone for $2 each) and so far none of them seem loose. I've purposely driven on a bumpy road and pulled over to check them and they are still tight. I've came to the conclusion that the stud nuts might have been loose or not tightened all the way.

Re: Thicker wheel stud question

Should be ok as .509 is stock asaik.
just line up the splines with the old groves on the hub when you press them in
