Starter problem

My 1982 Firebird V6 wouldn't start when i bought it so i figured it was the starter, soon enough it started because of a faulty clutch switch. Before i figured that out it had started right up. Except it was before that, that i knew there was a clutch switch problem. I took the starter out got it tested. it was fine. I put it back in, shims and all, and now it sounds like the gear is slipping on the flywheel, it cranks very slowly but will not turn over. I wired everything up, just as it was before. And im having problems now. Is my starter actually not good?

Re: Starter problem

Not unusual for a starter to do that. My 89 (V8 engine) was doing the same thing. Replaced the battery, seemed to help for a while but it was actually the starter. Replacement was dirt cheap at Advance, Mexican rebuild these days. Under $50.
