Loose dipstick tube
althogh its not the original engine, my dipstick has a bracket so you can bolt it to the exaust and hold it in place. And just to make sure it doesent leak, I ran a bead of silicon around the base where it seats.
I know that somedipstiks are the press in type, so I guess it just depends on what you have.
My dipstick is from an older truck, for some reason, the press in type would not fit.

Joshua Leslie: I have the same problem. A press in replacement dip stick absolutely will not fit into the hole. What did you do about it? What stick and what is its part number? I am out of ideas and was considering plugging the hole altogether. TIA.

I bought a replacement tube and stick from GM. It does have the tab to mount to the exhaust. If you don't have this tab, I would strongly suggest getting one. No matter what I did, the push in type always leaked for me. The chrome ones were the worse. Just an idea.
MotorCity, I went to Mathew Hargraves Chevrolet in Royal Oak, and told them I wanted a drivers side dipstick from a pickup truck, not a press in type.
I think but am not certain they told me they didnt have one and it would have to be pass. side dipstick, but I said thats fine.
I think but am again not certain that it is from a truck.
I dont have a part number, sorry!!
It was black. sticks out of the engine about 12-18 inches or so, and has a bracket on it to bolt it to the exaust.

Sarge,
If the tube already moves around easily, remove it. Swage the end with a punch or refrigeration tube swaging die, then press it back in the clean hole with a bit of LocTite 262 or equivalent. It'll probably stay then.

Good to go. Thanks all. I think I'll try your idea first Vader. Sounds like a simple but good solution.
