Hopefully that posted correctly. What else do I need to do to remove the heater core? What is the cable underneath? Thanks!

That's probably the cable that controls your hot to cold temperature. The rest of the heater functions, such as defrost, dash vents, or floor are controlled by vacuum servos.

Pat's right, it works the door right there, which controls the mix of air that's been heated and air that hasn't. Hot water flows through the heater core all the time, or at least whenever the temp control is above full cold.
