I ported my own heads...

Last January I decided to port my aluminum l98 heads for my 383 stroker with a comp 286 cam (hydrolic). First I port matched the int to the edelbrock gaskets as well as my single plane Victor Jr intake. Then I port matched the exhaust to the edelbrock gaskets which are perfectly sized to the Doug's full length headers. (Both int and exh ports were TINY compared to the gaskets) Then I just started gutting out metal from the insides till it "looked right" and then smoothed it ok the best I could. Hopefully I didn't destroy a perfectly good set of heads lol....

back in 1995, ported the original heads that came on my '84 vette 350 and it did make a noticeable difference Mostly I cleaned up the "flash" in the bowls, streamlined the guide bosses, and slightly raised the port roofs of intake and exhaust. The 'vette engine came with 76 cc '624s.

Re: I ported my own heads...

I've done 100 intakes but I'm still afraid to touch heads myself. I know if you touch the wrong area you slow the velocity and can make them flow less. The little that you did i'm sure will make a difference so good for you. It's a good feeling you get with tinkering with porting, I like doing it.
