nead some insight to internal coolant leak
hello well ive got a problem I have never had before .hope I can get sum help .I had my 305 roller motor rebuilt a couple months ago . I got it running but sat awhile after that due to carb and shady rebuilder . bare with me im going to try and break down everything how it went. after I received the motor back from the jack *** my first start up shot up to 220. I shut it down thought thermostat was sticking took it out fired it up same thing shot up to 220. I got pissed I knew something was off didn't know what so first things first I pulled intake manifold off. ARE U READY FOR THIS THE JACK *** HAD THE INTAKE GASKET backwards yes backwards . I was furouse called shop we got into a huge screaming match ended up in me hanging up . DONT EVER GO TO GOFF RACING IN BROOKSVILLE,FL . so I changed gasket got it on right on it ran cool then I started noticing A COOLANT LEAK .I TRYED THE DYE TOOK IT TO a shop nothing. it has dual exhaust and constantly had steam coming from driver side pipe. one day I notice the driver side under valve cover has white gel like all under the valve cover .nothing in oil weird .so I pull heads 081 heads take them to another reputable shop .I got the call today they checked out no cracks and when I brought them to him the head gaskets looked almost new fel pro. anyhow so now im lost could the block have a crack in it? idk.I have never had this problem ever. I asked my new shop guy hes lost as of now to. he did say he wanted to resurface heads. I don't want to spend another penny if this block is shot. sorry so long what do u guys think anyone ever had this before? and the manifold was also checked out I actually have a brand new edelbrock for it .any help would be appreciated im ready to take a couple grand loss and build a 350.but it sucks because I already have a lot teid up in 305 rebuiuld. bored 30 over, balanced crank ,ect if anyone has a real idea of what this is call me even 352 835 2813 ed

Re: nead some insight to internal coolant leak
220 is a nice normal acceptable reasonable running temp. In cars with single electric fan, the fan DOESN'T EVEN COME ON AT ALL until it reaches 235° or so; IOW any temp up to 235° is considered not to even need cooling.
Yes the block could have a crack in it.
Steam ordinarily comes from exhaust pipes. In fact it has no choice. Gasoline consists of molecules made from 2 elements, primarily: carbon, which produces carbon dioxide when completely burned, and carbon monoxide when burned without enough air present; and hydrogen, which produces water when burned. So, especially when the exh system is cold, the water might condense enough to become visible.
Best thing to do is to pressure-check it.
I'd check simple stuff first though. Did you put sealer on the head bolt threads when you put them on?

Re: nead some insight to internal coolant leak
Did you wait to see if it got hotter than 220? Were you low on anti freeze either in the radiator or in the overflow tank? To Sofakingdoms point, that is a perfectly acceptable temperature to operate at. If it doesn't get any hotter you should be ok. Especially if those two are still full (meaning none is leaking or burning off).
