If you go to the top of the forum front page , you'll see the first two headings are product reviews , and then vendor reviews right under that . Click vendor reviews , type Hawks into the searchbar , and read the threads that come up .

Most folks here like Hawks and have had great service from them . The occasional person has a complaint , same with ALL small "niche market" businesses , customers come in all shapes & sizes and with market expectations as varied as the customers themselves .

I personally have had great service from them and have not seen any alarming ratio of bad sales VS good sales posts that would have me worried about buying an engine from them if I needed one . Also remember to take ALL internet reviews with a grain of salt as not every good transaction gets an "Attaboy" post , but you can bet every unhappy customer will be posting about just how dissatisfied they are .

Re: Hawks third Gen reviews

Keep in mind, those are likely to be USED engines from WRECKED or PARTED OUT cars. Hawks, or any other dealer in used parts, has NO way to control what those parts are, other than to eliminate the obvious turkeys. They didn't wreck em, didn't rust em out, didn't maintain (or not) them leading up to that, and don't know in detail what's inside em.

So no matter what, there's some risk. You're not going to pay "used" price for an ANTIQUE used part, and get a motor with GUARANTEED "new" warranty-like properties. Figure that no matter what you get, it's going to have a certain level of old-age issues, at the very least.

That said, people that specialize in particular car lines or whatever, develop a pretty good sense over time about how to evaluate that sort of thing, and weed out the junk while keeping the better stuff. While I've never dealt with Hawks specifically, I have dealt with other similar companies, in the auto and various other industries. (musical instruments for example) And in nearly all cases, they were all people who made their living on their reputation for supplying decent products. Anybody in that kind of business that doesn't EARN that reputation, doesn't last long. I'd be willing to at least give em a try, subject to the above reservations.

Every purchase I have made from Hawks has been top notch and I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again.

I ended up pulling the trigger and ordered a 350 TPI with the 700r4 complete drivetrain from Hawks. They said they had a car that just come in with 98k original miles on it. So I bought The complete drivetrain from the car to hopefully have less problems installing it back into my Iroc. I'm pretty excited. I'll keep ya posted on the outcome!
