speaking of hv pumps- maybe my oil leak is coming from the intake gasket
I never have been able to track it down. It only seems to come out the back of the motor when you really get down on it and then it runs down the area where the block numbers are and dumps right on the drivers side header (where it smokes real good)
.
I thought it was the oil tap to the pressure gauge but i have put on thread sealer and that never has stopped it. I got the dynagear HV pump and made sure the drain back were not small but I did not change their size as such. Plus, when you talk the screens in the drain back holes, they tend to reduce the size to about a quarter at best.
I used hitemp sealer for the intake end gaskets. I also have the plugs (actually the stand off tubes) in the lifter valley and that could be reducing drain back there.
I would think that it would take a while for the oil to begin accumulating below the intake and then head out the seal. but it seems to do it almost immediately (after allowing it to warm up).
I guess it can't be hardly anything else.. after it dumps on the header, if you drive it around easy for a bit.. it eventually quits smoking.. I guess the first thing might be to pull some of the stand off tubes out and allow more oil to drain back directly down the middle. When I was priming the pump (with the intake off), i did not see a lot of oil accumulating in the intake area.. I would think that a bunch would be coming back from the heads for that to be the issue.. and most the time.. my oil pressure is pretty low (20 to 30) at light throttle/cruise (less than when I was priming it).
man that got long. .....
